About New Zealand


         New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses and a large number of small islands including islands like Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. There are just over four million New Zealanders, and every single one is either an immigrant or descended from one.New Zealand enjoys a well deserved reputation as a liberal and tolerant society.

         New Zealand comprises two main islands, the North and South Islands, Te Ika a Maui and Te Wai Pounamu respectively in Maori, and a number of smaller islands, located near the centre of the water hemisphere. The area is about 268,680 square kilometers which is little more than the United Kingdom. The country has a coastline of 15,134 km.

         The South Island is the largest land mass of New Zealand, and is divided along its length by the Southern Alps. The NorthIsland is less mountainous but is marked by volcanic activities. New Zealand is a popular location for the production of television programs and movies like Lord of the Rings.

        The Economy of New Zealand is a market economy and relies heavily on international trade with countries like Australia, the European Union, the United States, China and Japan. It is also strongly focused on tourism and primary industries like agriculture, while having only small manufacturing and high-tech components
